I don't know why a library musician would ever need a pseudonym but "Dave Sarkys" is actually Roger Roger, the bibliotechnician extraordinaire. Some crazy guy in Omaha told me Roger Roger's middle name is also Roger, but that would make him Roger Roger Roger, and that's about as believable as my friend who claimed (on my tape recorder) to know three brothers who are all named Tudor Bologna.

Gadi Elon - Smilin Eyes  (Gadi Elon, 1976)

Gadi Elon was an Israeli lounge singer who captivated audiences from the trenches of the Israeli wars to the nightclubs of New York and Las Vegas. Presumably he sold this privately pressed record at his shows. According to the liner notes the song "Smilin Eyes" was especially written for Gadi by Butch Poverno and George Bitzer, who are also credited with background vocals. A bit of googling revealed that George Bitzer was also the main keyboardist on Andy Gibb's Shadow Dancing LP and wrote the theme song for the cartoon "Galaxy High" (not to take the spotlight away from Gadi or anything).

From the album The Leaders released in 1977. Ronald "Boo" Hinkson and the Tru-tones hailed from the island of Barbados, whose football team faces the relatively mighty USA in a World Cup qualifier today. Go Barbados!

The Tim Gaze Band - Bermuda

Band On The Run was an Australian surfing film sponsored by Coca-Cola and the Australian Film Commission, starring a bunch of famous Australian surfing champions. The film and the soundtrack appeared briefly in 1982 and quickly vanished. I like "Lazy Day Fever" 'cos it sounds like Bobb Trimble on prozac, but the baked instrumental "Bermuda" is the true highlight of the record.
